“PRESERVING AND PROMOTING EDO LANGUAGE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND OUR MISSION.”
Edonaze is designed and managed by Uwagboe Ogieva to promote Edo language. A journey he embarked since 2003 to make Edo language accessible for all interested listeners, speakers and learners irrespective of their geographical locations.
Edonaze is a beautiful African language spoken by over 20 million people across Nigeria, with numerous dialects originating from Edo: Esan, Urhobo, Isoko, Ora and Owan. Edo is a language which is rich in history and culture; over the last few years there has been a demand in materials to learn the language.
There are challenges, particularly with the demand in materials, websites, and apps to assist in easy learning of the language. The latter is further highlighted by the lack of teachers, writers, and books. Overall, this is a field which has been neglected due to low sponsorship.
Uwagboe Ogieva has taken on the task to make Edo language free and available online. It is pivotal that the necessary tools and resources are made accessible to interested learners. Additionally, he has set up "Ogbenbe Urru Edo Associates", which is an NGO in pursuit of coordinating writers and teachers to work on numerous projects including; a dictionary, audio books, podcasts, applications, books for educational institutions as well as having Edo as an option within Google Translate.
